Abstract: Systems analysis is a useful technique for organizing scientific and other information that relates to the input and outputs of goat production systems. The Texas A&M SR CRSP Simulation Model has breeding the selection criteria for DPG for smallholders, the deficiencies of the native forage base in quantitative terms and adequacy of available supplements, the optimal dairy milk/kig milk ratio, and the flock size required to meet minimal dairy milk needs. These simulations illustrate that systems analysis can substitute for live animal production research to identify and narrowy research objectives. The results illustrate an objective method for integrating results from research is various animal science disciplines for practical application to production, The capability to examine the effect of altering a production practice on total flock productivity provides a method of avoiding introduction of practices that are beneficial in one system but would be counterproductive in another system. From a general view, the application of systems analysis via computer simulation models opens the potentials for animal scientists to formulate recomendations for specific targeted production; i.e., to formulate recommendations for specific eco-zones, financial and physical production resources, objectives of the producer, etc. that are expected to be more effective than broadly generalized recommendations. Table 1. Simulated average lifetime production of 5-year-old does for 5 genotypes using forage typital of one area of Wester Kenya. Table 2. Simulated productivity of 40/4.4 and 40/3.0 goats in 4-doe flock using forage typital of one area of Wester Kenya.
